Very few make the cut. In terms of all over performance, these mascaras bring it! Some have been so good that I’ve actually purchased them more than once. Imagine that!

Cool list and website… First time here!

Have you tried Make Up For Ever's Smokey Lash? That's my new favorite-right-now mascara!

  2. B says:

Nooo, but I've heard so many great things about this mascara. I'll be reviewing it soon!

  3. cinde says:

Great web site–I'm new and loving it. BUT–no reviews on Mally Beauty Volumizing mascara!? The BEST. Also Prescriptives Lash Envy (if they still make it) is very nice.

  4. B says:

Thanks Cinde! Hmm…I've heard some things about Mally but haven't tried their mascaras yet. And I don't even know where to find poor Prescriptives any more. *sigh*

  5. Yum Yucky says:

Vibrating Mascara!? I will look for that one first. And seriously, I really AM heading out to buy mascara today. Thanks for the list!

  6. Emmagene Bach says:

You really should try Elizabeth Arden's Double Density Mascara.

  7. Nichole says:

I just found this site and I love it. The reviews are so helpful. I read all the reviews for the best mascaras and decided on Max Factor and surprise the Max Factor Volume Couture, has been discontinued. Is there another mascara you would recommend that is just as great or better as the Max Factor brand for length and volume? My poor lashes need some help so any recommendations would be great.

    • emmy says:

the falsies flared bymaybelline is a great mascara for holding a curl. it is much better than the original and if you layer it with maybelline one by one it is amazing!

  8. B says:

Nichole—> Hi lovely! Thank you so much for supporting Clumps of Mascara. I really appreciate it. I LOVED Max Factor's VC and I haven't found a drug store mascara that is THAT good in length AND volume. I do recommend Neutrogena Volume mascara though. It does surprisingly well in both departments. Let me know what you think if you try it!

  9. NncySF says:

i've been looking FOREVER for a true no-smudge mascara – no matter which tips i follow, i always seem to get black stuff under my eyes – for a while there was a website called reflect.com (i think it was part of p&g) where you could order customized mascara, and that worked great, but the site died in the dot com bomb – i've tried bobbi brown's 'no-smudge' and wasn't so impressed – any other ideas??

  10. B says:

NncySF—> Oh man….I never heard of that site. Sounds awesome though! If you find that a great deal of mascaras from different brands smudge when you wear them, try prepping your lashes before you apply. Sometimes our face moisturizers end up on our lashes and can make the mascara act a little wonky. A good tubing mascara like Imju Fiberwig may rock your world. The fibers attach themselves on your lashes and don't budge until you're ready to remove it.

  11. emolyme says:

I love your site and ive watched all of your videos on youtube. Ive been searching all over drugstore online stores to see if they have the falsies from maybelline but none seem to have it. I really am looking for a mascara that lengthens, defines, volumizes.. pretty much everything! I will try the XXL pro mascara from maybelline but i also want a few others.. what else would you recomend that really defines each lash???

  12. loya96 says:

my lashes r long thin nd dnt have curl nd soo far every mascara ive tries wich is many hasnt worked do u recomend anything please help!!

  13. B says:

emolyme and loya96—> Send me emails, lovelies!

  14. Latest Beauty says:

Maybelline Full & Soft (waterproof) – is by far, my all time favorite mascara. Doesn't clump at all & is perfect. I've tried tons of other mascaras out there too!

  15. Melissa says:

Hi B! I just love your site. It is so informative. I just can’t figure out what HG mascara is. I’ve seen it mentioned several times. Please help. Thanks for all your info.

    Melissa

    • Brittany says:

Hi there! And thank you so much. HG means holy grail. Beauty aficionados use that term to give products that we absolutely LOVE.

  16. Krystle says:

Hi there! I am new to your site! I was looking at your lists of mascaras and I am wondering if you have tried Eyecko {or Eyeko}? It comes in a silver tube that looks like a small toothpaste-like tube. If not, you should try it! It’s fabulous, and I would be curious about your reactions. :)

  17. Swedishgrrl says:

Great list, but after trying many mascaras through the years, my favorite is Maybelline Full and Soft waterproof. Easy to apply and great results! Love your blog.

  18. Ezra says:

Hi, I have been looking up great mascaras to use because all of my old favorites are just not cutting it for me anymore. I heard that the CoverGirl Professional Super THick mascara was better and more preferred even, than the CoverGirl Last Blast. please review?? (:

  19. Liz says:

I have to tell you I’ve been stalking your blogs for quite a few months now. I’m a makeup addict, although I still consider myself a newbie and your site is sooooo helpful!!! My favorite mascaras are Loreal Voluminous, Maybelline Soft N Full and Colossal Volum’ Express. Have you tried Prestige My Biggest Lashes? I just recently started using and I love it as well!

    • Brittany says:

Thank you so much! And noooo, I haven’t tried any of Prestige mascaras. Not yet at least. ;)

    • Jen M. says:

I second each of these recs! I have re-bought Maybelline Full-n-Soft, the L’oreal Voluminous, and I LOVE the Prestige My Biggest Lashes. YAY for other mascara lovers!!!

  20. Lia says:

Avon vibrating Sonic Boost works wonders!

  21. Mimi says:

Tarte Light Camera Action mascara is awesome but my favorite right now has to be LORAC multiplex 3d mascara!

  22. Elle says:

Just came across the site, and as a new beauty artist, this is great! Have you tried Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash? I’ve found that it’s the only mascara that I use that doesn’t clump and actually lengthens my lashes.

And I’m a fan, and will be a regular visitor!

  23. Lisa says:

I love your blog. Have you ever tried or reviewed any of the lash “primers” that you apply before your mascara? I’m really interested in MakeUp Forever’s Lash Fibers. I’m wondering if it really does what it claims

  24. Suicheeks says:

Just discovered you tonight and had to put in my 2 cents on mascara. First I have to say that I, too, am one who never seemed to be able to wear mascara without having it either disappear or become raccoon-like throughout the day. That is, until I found Avon’s Wash-Off Waterproof Mascara! It’s staying power is amazing, and it truly does wash right off at the end of the day. I won’t even try anything else.

  25. Frieda says:

will you pleeeaase review the physicians formula organic wear mascara? ive heard great things about it, and on top of that, its cruelty-free!! :D

    • Brittany says:

      I’ve reviewed that one. Woot!

      • Jen M. says:

I liked that one, but didn’t love…the brush reminds me of the Cover Girl Lash Blast…I’m not a fan of the silicone brushes…I find that they don’t “grip” the lashes, and the formula, whichever it may be, ends up just sitting heavily atop my lashes, rather than coating root to tip. Give me a traditional fibered wand any day!

  26. Cassie says:

they’re real benefit is to die for! it does everything it says it will and more!

the name is no joke either, people have asked me if i was wearing falsies!

heard great things about smokey lash too!

  27. Nefisa says:

Max Factor Volume Couture is the only one I have used out the list and I love it, so I have stuck to it for a while now. But i guess i should experiment more and check out other options they could be better :)
Nefisa recently blogged about Bargain Hunter – Shop till you dropMy Profile

  28. Terri says:

My favorite drugstore mascara is L’Oreal Waterproof Double Extend. Its the one with the primer on one end and the mascara on the other. No smearing, flakes and it lengthens and volumizes. I wear contacts and no problems at all. It also washes off very easily. LOVE this mascara!

  29. Vi says:

Oh gosh, Covergirl Lash Blast (waterproof) used to work pretty well for me. It made my lashes pretty stiff and hard though. But lately I have had smudges on my lower lids (outside corners) a lot recently. I tried Almay’s nourishing volume mascara (waterproof) and that also seem to smudge in that area as well.

I looked at Clinique’s mascaras at Sephora today but could not find a water-proof one. :(

  30. Nicola says:

Hi B, love your site, only found it recently! Have been reading your “best mascaras” list with interest and am taking my list with me next time I go mascara shopping!

Thanks heaps for your great reviews!

    Nicola from London :)

  31. Karin says:

Love tarte, lights camera lashes!!! It’s my favorite mascara ever. The packaging is great and it has a great teddy bear brush. All you need is 2 coats and your eyelashes are brushing up against your eyebrows. ;)
Also, Maybelline Falsies Volume Express, that’s my back-up if I can’t get to Sephora for the tarte.

  32. Izzy says:

My favorite right now is Dior New Look Mascara. I was surprised when I saw the wand (it was very small) but I was impressed by the way it lengthened my lashes and gave it some volume too. The price is like $30 in the US but it is totally worth the purchase! They have it in black, brown, and blue. You can buy it at any Sephora store(:

  33. Lindsay says:

Loving Benefit they’re real lash but really expensive! What are you thoughts?

  34. maeve says:

Hi! :) I just want to say that I’m a mascara fiend, always looking for mascaras thatt give me lashes reminiscent of a drag queen’s without wearing falsies, and I LOVE Prestige’s My Biggest Lashes mascara for this look! It layers amazingly well, which is how I achieve thick, black, curled lashes. I hope you get to try it sometime! :)

  35. Simone says:

My two all time favourite Mascaras are budget Yves Rocher Sexy Pulp Ultra-Volume Mascara and the luxury Estee Lauder Sumptuous mascara. Have you tried either of these?

  36. Kania Q says:

Can we get a 2014 version of this list? Thanks B!
