I was on my way to work and was tempted to try on that new Port Red lipstick from MAC’s Naughty Nauticals collection. So I dropped my lunch box and purse on the floor and ran to my bathroom where the beauty of all lipsticks lay in my traincase. I lined my lips with Nightmoth and applied Port Red. I was floored with how beautiful it looks. The subtle gold specks really bring some “umph” to the overall color of Port Red. I am in love with this. And yep, it is a TRUE red. What I love about it is how it isn’t a deep red. Deep reds tend to make me really look like somebody’s 40 year old Momma. And yall know what I’m talkin’ about….hehehe.
So dig the little photo shoot I had in the car. I was careful about it, I promise. I also tried to show pictures in different lightning so you can really get an idea of how Port Red looks. *insert British voice* I was a bit giddy in these pics, chaps but I had a jolly good time. And you’ll have to enlarge for a better view. Photbucket was on the trips today, mannnn.
My brows are really crackin’ me up. Goin’ to get them threaded tomorrow. I can’t express how much I love this color.
What do you think?
Yay or nay to Port Red?
…..what’ s your take on darker skinned ladies wearin’ red lippies?
Category: Lips

yay to port red! i never knew that a black girl could pull off such a bright lipstick, but i am a believer!
great list! the lips are gorgeous! rock it.. i think all WoC especially darker skinned ladies should have a great red lippie in their arsenal!
Hey.I enjoyed reading your entry! I also love sweet as cocoa.Yay to Port Red.I ordered it and can’t wait to get it
Your review on it and now the pictures are very helpful!
Yes mam…you are rocking the Port Red. Looks really good on you…I may have to replace Rocker with it….hmmmmm
I love the color on you! In high school all I wore for 4 years was red lipstick so I don’t know why I’m having issues now with it. I’m going to check out the Port Red.
I love the red lip color on you. Hey I’m in my 40′s what do you mean by that (LOL)
Yay, yay, yay!!! You already know that I’m all for you dark skinned girls wearing red lippies but when I scrolled down and saw those four photos I swear my heart skipped a beat or two. That shade was made to be worn by you!
I just don’t understand why there are practically no black women wearing red lipstick, at least not in the media… (Here in Hungary, there are hardly any African or African-American people, so I can only see you gals in television or in movies.) Gals are always rocking the smoky eye and nude lips look. I love that too, but red like this looks so gorgeous on you.
Hmm, rosemary essential oil played a big part in stopping heavy hairloss for me a few years back, so it’s definitely good and I love treating my hair with olive oil after washing it. It really brings out my curls! Do you use a home-made formula?
Loved this post, it’s always nice to get to know more about our bloggin’ friends. ^_^
Hugs,
Izar
P.S.: Btw, I love the new look of ‘Clumps’: fresh, airy (i.e. not cluttered), great color combo, and I still love your blog description for some silly reason.
^^^ I think a lot of black women are afraid to wear red lipstick, but I also of women in general are afraid to wear red lipstick. You look great in it though. Rock it!
Red lipstick is my crack. I love bright lips, and Port Red looks fantabulous on you!
Those Port Red lips have me grabbing my purse and car keys. It’s MAC store time!
I have to say nay. I can’t rock the red lipstick. I think I look like someone’s momma with dark or light red lipstick. =(
um hell yes. that color looks great on you. I think EVERYONE can rock red lipstick, you just have to find the right shade of red. For me, ts vincent longo-costa fiore-a bluish red.
twinkle_twinkle is right. I was afraid of wearing red lipstick! I got my Port Red and looove it!
Thanks chicas….told you would love it Nywele!
I love a good list!!!
I am like you – it’s hard for me to leave the house without eyeliner.
I think the red looks great on you! I’ve never tried wearing red before because my husband thinks it’s a hideous shade, but what does he know, right? LOL
I love it on you! I bought the mattene seriously rich last month which is my LOVE but imma have to try this color since it looks more daytime like!
