Beauty Review: CoverGirl Queen’s Natural Hue Minerals

| November 11, 2008 | 19 Comments

There is a reason why I don’t do much discussion on foundations/face powders here at Clumps of Mascara.

I don’t wear them. I have no REAL reason for not wearing them. I just don’t.

Recently, I had the opportunity to test drive CoverGirl Queen Collection’s Natural Hue Mineral pressed powder and bronzer. This of course, had me excited because I had high hopes for the popular drugstore cosmetic line made just for women of color!

First up to bat…..the pressed powder.

What It Says
“Mineral enriched formula controls shine 30% better than the leading pressed powder. Provides natural, even coverage that lasts for hours.”

Wow, I concur. This powder is pretty excellent. For one…look how it blends beautifully with my complexion.

Where the little white sponge ends is where I “marked” my face with the powder. You can’t even see it! Which is beautiful because ain’t nothin’ worse than not having a face powder match your complexion. My color for the powder is Ebony Bronze 1.

Here’s how it looks all over.

I am beyond impressed! I found that that the powder was long-lasting and light on my face. The latter is extremely important to me. If I product feels too “heavy”, I just can’t wear it for fear that it will break me out. And I know that using a sponge to apply powders isn’t the best thing but I only used it once. See…..I know. *big grin*

Next up, we have the Bronzer, also in Ebony Bronze.

What It Says
“Get a sun kissed glow without the shine. Mineral enriched formula pampers skin and controls shine.”

I didn’t see much purpose for the bronzer. First of all, it was a little too glittery for my liking. And just a tad bit too dark. When I think of a bronzer of think of a gold-ish color. And I’m not sure I like the application of this baby here too. It took a ton of swipes before I could load it up effectively on my brush.

And even then….I didn’t feel like it complimented my skin well….can you see it?

I would much prefer a highlight than this dark bronzer here.

The final look:

The coverage is fantastic and I don’t even look like I’m wearing make-up which is a huge plus for me. Overall, I absolutely loooove the look and feel of the Natural Hue Minerals Pressed Powder. The bronzer? Not so much as I think I have a ton of great highlighters/blushes that can compliment my skin better. But I am impressed nonetheless and a little upset at myself for not dabbling in these products sooner. Have any of you tried these products?

Tell me what you think!

Stay beautiful!

Your face is glowing you probably couldnt tell it with the bronzer but I can tell. I use the queen collection on some of my clients who are women of color and you can not tell the difference if I wouldve use Mac.

  4. Ms. Aja B. says:

The Queen Collection was my first real jump into cosmetics, mostly because I had never found just one foundation that would work. I always had to blend. With the Queen collection that is not the case! Between my IMAN concealer and my Queen collection pressed powder, I am so set!

I'm glad you felt the same way & would love to see more reviews of products from the Queen collection. :)

  5. Product Junkie Diva says:

Like you, I don’t wear pressed powders and I have never worn a bronzer but it looks great on you. In fact you cant even tell that you have anything on.
CoverGirl hit this one out of the park…good job.

It looks great on you but I dont wear covergirl make up.! I can never get the right shade andI cant return it!

  7. SuzieC says:

CoverGirl looks nice on you! I spent a while trying to hunt down the bronzer and now that it’s in stores I still haven’t gotten it yet. I do think the bronzers are crazy dark but I guess that’s so everybody can find something that matches then. One day I’ll pick it up…

  8. justme says:

Man, I seriously need to try this! I am sooo late…but I’m glad that you approve and that you showed pictures!

Ok, a question for the mineral experts. I’ve been hesitant to try the CG Queen collection mineral foundation b/c it’s labeled as ‘mineral enriched’ which to me means it’s not 100% minerals but the same old formula w/a few minerals mixed in. Can anyone confirm? I guess I need to go to the drugstore and read the back of the package to see the ingredients.

I got the id bare escentuals starter kit and I think its foundation only has 4 ingredients, all of which are minerals, which keeps it pure. Since there are no regulations on what qualifies as mineral makeup, I’d be interested in knowing if that’s why Cover Girl can legally put minerals on the label (in the title) if the product also includes additives and preservatives. It’s like Herbal Essences shampoo. It’s not an organic, completely herbal product. It’s the same old shampoo formula just like any other chemical-laden shampoo on the shelf, except it has a few herbs in it.

Ok, I’m probably going way too deep into it.

On another note, did you catch the new Lifetime TV makeup challenge show, Blush (http://www.mylifetime.com/on-tv/shows/blush)? Already lovin’ it!

    ’till next time…

  13. Grayburn says:

Really like that lip color on you!

  14. B says:

    Thank you, loves…thank you!

Ish–> I'm going to forward you message to Yums. She's way more knowledgeable in that area than I am. LOL! I didn't catch Blush last night but it's waiting for me on my DVR! Was it gooood?

  15. Fashion's Darling says:

I tried the pressed powder one time but bought the wrong color so that left a nasty memory lol. I gate glittery things so the bronzer and I would not be friends

  16. Danyelle says:

Darling, your skin looks amazing! You don’t need no stinkin foundation, lol. I’m still a lil iffy (not a real word:) about the Queen collection because I’ve tried it once before and didn’t like the finish or the fact that I looked like a chili pepper, uh, Red! lol

  17. B says:

FD–> I'm not a fan of glittery things either and this is a little too glittery for my liking.

Dany–> RED? Oh hells nah. LOL!

  18. AnyaPosh says:

    Your hair is GROWING!!!

I think you would really love a loose powder, such as bare escentuals or some of the other mineral powders you can order on the web through ebay. Natural Girl cosmetics has a variety of shades, and it gives you just enough coverage over the flaws without looking “made up”. Plus Pamela, the owner will adjust colors for you so you have just the right shade for blush, foundation, shadow, etc. Have fun and good luck
