Mascara Monday: Max Factor Vivid Impact mascara

| April 13, 2009 | 14 Comments

Happy Monday! If you celebrate it, I hope that you all had a wonderful Resurrection Sunday! The dawn of Easter always REALLY reminds me that it is Spring time. And the weather here in Central Florida says just that.

Thank you ALL for your support and involvement in Clumps of Mascara’s Reader Appreciation Week. I know everyone couldn’t win something but it was exciting to see all of the entries and overall excitement in the giveaways. Yay!!

This mascara is one that has been requested several times. And I am just now getting to it. Yikes!! This post will be picture heavy because I wanted to show each detail of this groovy mascara. Is it really vivid or a bust?

Max Factor Vivid Impact mascara
(blue & pink)

Price: 4 out of 5 ($10 from Ulta.com )
Packaging (Brush Wand): 4 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5

What it claims: “Dual color mascara that combines a traditional solid color base coat with an iridescent highlighting top coat to add a hint of color to lashes. Delivers sophisticated, bold and unexpected eye looks.(source)

The truth:
Pink lashes? That’s unexpected alright!!

What I loved about it: I love the versatility of this mascara. You can create many different looks. Whether it be the pink highlighting top coat just on the tips, all over, or just on the lower lashes. Such fun!

What I didn’t like:
For whatever reason, the mascara was a bit hard on the lashes.I mean….harder than most mascaras.

Overall: If you are lookin‘ for a mascara that will give you a “different” look or add a pop of color, this is it! I had so much fun playing around with mascara. I mean, think about it….pink lashes? How fun is that? As far as the performance of the mascara, I found that the blue basecoat gave me good volume. I’m talkinMax Factor Volume Couture-kinda volume.

The pink highlighting top coat, however, isn’t the same consistency as the mascara. It is a little thinner than a creamy eyeshadow. It takes quite a few strokes to get the color ON the lashes. And even then…it may appear a little streaky at first. I would imagine the color would really POP on lighter lashes but since my babies are dark brown….it is a little hard to see the pink.

Check out the wands:

The defining basecoat

The highlighting topcoat

Lashes without mascara
(did not curl lashes)

Lashes with 2 coats of mascara

First, I am applying two coats of the defining basecoat in blue. You can hardly tell that it’s there, uh? But I do get a good amount of volume and length.

Next I applied the pink highlighting top coat with the tip of the wand.

You can see the pink up close and personal. But what about outside?

So it really does work. I love how it looks with a purple eyeliner. Reader Sabrina was really the inspiration behind me finally purchasing and reviewing this mascara. Look at how beautiful the gold mascara looks with her pretty blue eyes!

Hotness!!

Would I recommend it?: Everyone should have one of these babies in their mascara stash. Fun-kaaaay!! Speaking of “funky”….count how many times I use that word in the video review. It’s pretty funny.

Enjoy your Monday, family!

I am too lazy to put on mascara (coming from someone who really needed it), and I doubt I’ll be able to put on “funky” mascaras :) Wonderful review :)

    Eeek! I love it!
I’m going to pick one of these up this week. Probably the same one you used here since it looks so good next to your brown skin. :)

I haven’t seen a magazine ad for this stuff in a long time, but I remember when it was first introduced, there were ads for it everywhere and they were major, major fails. They showed Carmen Electra in totally outrageous, bold makeup (you can see one at http://tinyurl.com/cuneou ). The colors were gorgeous, but the ads definitely didn’t make it look like something that would be wearable every day.

Anyway, I got the blue/pink one out of curiosity a while back, and it was really cool! I was pleasantly surprised by how subtle and wearable it is. I have Casper-pale skin and dark eyes, and it really made my eyes pop without looking ridiculous or making me think “OMGWTF MY EYELASHES ARE PURPLE!”

hmm that does look intriguing, having different colors of mascara. i love that pink on you. brings out your eyes. thanks for this review.

I have this and used it for one of my models. I have to say that I was very disappointed in it. It was rather watery for my taste and the poor brushes didn’t spread evenly enough for me. I wasn’t expecting the blue to be strong but I was expecting some pop from the pink. I found that I had to keep going over and over her lashes and the model had the longest lashes I have ever seen. It simply, to me, became an annoying process LOL I found that mine came out better when I used my disposable brushes

these mascaras are cool to have in a stash but I doubt I’ll be using the colored side so often! It looks great with your purple eyeshadow :D

  13. Rachel says:

I can’t imagine using something pink on my eyelashes since I work in a hosptial corporate office (we’re so conservative here they limit the number of earrings you can have in a single ear). This would be something I’d only get to use “after hours”.

I have this one and the gold/brown one. What I loved is that the base color made my lashes crazy long. What I didn’t like was the accent color then turning my lashes into weapons. Them bad boys were sharp. I do like these mascara’s, it’s a fun way to spice up a look.
