Mascara Monday: Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash mascara
This was probably one of the most highly requested mascaras. And I am FINALLY getting to it. Is it worth the hype? Hmmm…

What it claims: “Bare Escentuals Buxom® Lash Mascara – Blackest Black holds the style of your lashes for a continuous 12 hours with no flakiness. The silky, vitamin-rich formula darkens, lengthens, and thickens from root to tip without ever clumping. Its patented, hourglass-shaped brush is designed to lift and separate every lash while delivering the perfect amount of antioxidant-rich mascara needed for bigger, fuller lashes. “ (source)
The truth: *yawn* Oh wait….what were we talking about again?

- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Phthalates
That’s pretty cool!
What I didn’t like: It claimed to be a volume mascara but I didn’t see much. That sucks.
Overall: This is one of those mascaras that took me almost a year to review. I’m not sure why. I received SO many requests to review it and just never got around to it. But here we are. I’m not all that impressed with Buxom. Like, at all…. First, let’s take a look at the wand.
This is what they call their hour glass buxom wand. As you can see, the middle of the wand sucks in and if you hold it vertically, it indeed looks like an hourglass. I mentioned in the video that I didn’t see the big deal in this but I guess it’s one of those things that companies like to do to make their wands appear “more unique”. Um yeah…whatever works.
It’s not a bad wand though. The bristles are long enough to effectively grab the lashes so they get an A+ in that area. It does, though, make for tough application in the inner lashes. The end of the wand is rounded and well..it is really hard to get in the corners.
As I mentioned earlier, I didn’t get much volume out of this mascara. The lengthening bit was okay but I wasn’t THAT impressed. Perhaps the best thing about this mascara is the fact that it is build-able. And it really doesn’t clump no matter how many coats you apply. But even that was enough to appease me. I needed more length and at least SOME volume.
The lashes still look a puny to me. Boo!
It gives neat tricks of how to apply the mascara with their special wand. Nothing that us veteran mascara users don’t know though.

So glad you did a review of this! I was wondering about it, and not enough to drop that kind of dough unless it was all that – we seem to like the same mascaras. It really doesn't seem that awesome!

Hi saw this review! Great analysis! One thing that I saw that caught my eye was I don't think Bare Minerals can make that claim on patten pending hour glass shaped wand. Nyx Doll Eyes Volume Mascara has the same wand by the looks of it. Only $7.99 @ Ulta. Better results. However a fresh tube does require a little finesse. It was the only mascara that had warrant compliments from strangers.
Sorry you had to spend $18 on mascara you don't like. I hope you can return it.

I'm glad you reviewed this! No lie, I was at Sephora today and almost picked this one up because there is SO MUCH hype over it! Glad I didn't though.. bleh. Looks like it hardly did anything for you. Sad day. Do you know if there's any reason for the brushes to curve in the middle like that? Define-a-lash does that, too. And I agree^^ gorgeous eyeshadow!! Thanks for the review~
I'm not impressed with this mascara either. It's great that it's a green mascara but their claim for volume is false. I feel that there are better mascaras to spend your money on.

As far as Buxom is conserned, I like it. It really exstends my short lashes. It give it that umph. I guess different for different ppl.
